After launching in 2015, Helix quickly became popular for its Sleep Quiz that aims to pair customers with the right mattress for their preferred position and feel.

In 2023, Helix added to its existing mattress line with the Helix LUXE mattress. The Helix LUXE mattress is the more premium alternative to the flagship Helix mattress. Like the original Helix mattress, the Helix LUXE comes in six main models: the Sunset LUXE, the Midnight LUXE, the Twilight LUXE, the Moonlight LUXE, the Dusk LUXE, and the Dawn LUXE. The Helix LUXE mattress shares some of the key attributes of the original Helix mattress but adds additional upgraded features, including a quilted pillow top, zoned support, and a breathable cover.

We’ll help you differentiate between the models of the Helix LUXE and assess what the mattress has to offer.

Construction

The Helix LUXE is available in six distinct models, which feature different designs. To discuss their constructions, we’ll break them down into two main groups that share similar characteristics. The Sunset LUXE, the Midnight LUXE, and the Twilight LUXE constitute the first group, while the second group consists of the Moonlight LUXE, the Dusk LUXE, and the Dawn LUXE.

All of the Helix LUXE mattresses are 14 inches tall and constructed of several layers of foam paired with an innerspring layer. Each mattress also features a pillow top and breathable mattress cover.

The Sunset LUXE and the Midnight LUXE feature a comfort layer composed of Memory Plus Foam. This high-density foam is designed for pressure relief. The Twilight LUXE’s comfort layer uses Gel Visco memory foam for cushioning. The next layer of the mattress varies between models, but each layer is designed with similar goals in mind: contouring, support, and pressure relief. The Sunset LUXE uses Helix Dynamic Foam, the Midnight LUXE uses Gel Visco memory foam, and the Twilight LUXE uses Memory Plus Foam. The transition layers of the Sunset LUXE, Midnight LUXE, and Twilight LUXE are composed of high-grade polyfoam to provide extra contouring. The innerspring layer of each mattress features over 1,000 pocketed coils that offer targeted support to promote better alignment. The final layer of each mattress uses DuraDense Foam to act as a base for the mattress.

The Moonlight LUXE and the Dusk LUXE use Helix Dynamic Foam in the comfort layer, while the Dawn LUXE Gel Visco memory foam. The comfort layer of each of these mattresses is designed to offer cushioning. Next, the Moonlight LUXE and the Dawn LUXE feature a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam, while the Dusk LUXE features Memory Plus Foam. This layer is designed for contouring, support, and pressure relief. Next, each mattress uses a transition layer of high-grade polyfoam, which is designed to provide extra support and contouring. A layer of over 1,000 individually-wrapped coils offers zoned support. Each mattress’s base uses DuraDense Foam, which acts as a foundation for the mattress.

Helix LUXE Mattress Mattress Breakdown

In the next section, we’ll describe how we expect the Helix LUXE mattress to perform. Because there are six models available, not all of the Helix LUXE mattresses will perform the same in all categories, but we’ll aim to give you a general overview. If you want to know more about how we conduct our reviews, read our methodology.

Is it made from quality materials?

The Helix LUXE mattress uses a number of premium components that can offer a heightened sense of luxury.

The Helix LUXE mattress uses a quilted pillow top, which aims to replicate a hotel feel. The mattress cover is designed for extra breathability, which can also help the mattress sleep cooler. The innerspring layer of the Helix LUXE offers zoned support to allow the shoulders to sink in more. Providing the right combination of softness and support is thought to aid spinal alignment. Additionally, the coils in the innerspring layer are pocketed, which can help prevent motion from transferring between the springs.

Like other Helix mattresses, Helix LUXE mattresses are also certified by CertiPUR-US and Oeko-Tex, which means they’ve been tested for an array of potentially harmful substances.

How long will it last?

Since the Helix LUXE was first introduced in 2023, there is not yet long-term information on how the mattress holds up with routine use. On average, hybrid mattresses usually last from 6 to 8 years. Based on the construction, we would expect the Helix LUXE mattress to last around this long or longer. The 15-year warranty that comes with the Helix LUXE offers additional reassurance of the mattress’s durability.

How well does it conform to my body?

All of the Helix LUXE mattress models offer a good level of conforming. Each mattress features a quilted pillow top for surface-level comfort and conforming. Below that, each mattress features multiple layers of foam that allow the body to sink in more for additional conforming. The innerspring layer of each mattress model offers zoned support, which can offer extra contouring while preventing the hips from sinking in too deeply.

How much conforming you experience may depend on the mattress model. Softer mattresses will offer more conforming, while firmer mattress may provide less. Additionally, sleepers who weigh more than average may sink in more on softer and medium firm mattresses, so they may also experience greater conforming than other weight groups.

Is the edge supportive?

The Helix LUXE mattress features reinforced edges that can make it easier to use the full surface area of your mattress. Sturdy coils are used around the perimeter of the innerspring layer. While the foams in the mattress may compress some when you sit or sleep near the edge of the bed, the coils should prevent the mattress from compressing excessively and creating a feeling of instability.

Does it sleep hot?

The Helix LUXE mattress offers several features that should reduce heat retention and promote cooler sleeping. The mattress cover uses fabric designed for breathability. Since it allows more airflow, heat has more of a chance to dissipate. Additionally, the Helix LUXE’s hybrid design allows greater airflow through the base layer. All-foam bases may prevent heat from escaping, but the breathable innerspring layer in the Helix LUXE mattress can allow air to circulate, thereby dissipating heat.

Will it off-gas when it’s delivered?

Like most mattresses that contain foam, the Helix LUXE mattress may have a “new mattress” small at first. This odor is not harmful, and it shouldn’t be significant or long-lasting. Your new mattress should air out quickly if you leave it in a well-ventilated area.

Will I feel my partner move during the night?

The Helix LUXE mattress’s multiple layers of foam and pocketed coils should help reduce motion transfer. Foam is popular for its ability to absorb and isolate motion. Additionally, the wrapping of the coils is an extra touch that can reduce motion transfer between springs. However, since the innerspring layer offers bounce, you may still experience slight motion transfer when your partner changes position during the night.

Who is Best Suited for a Helix LUXE Mattress?

As always, the ideal mattress usually comes down to personal preference. Everyone has their own idea of what makes a mattress comfortable, and these ideas do not always overlap. But because the Helix LUXE mattress offers so much variety in firmness and construction, it may appeal to people with diverse sleep styles and preferences.

Helix LUXE models are designed to accommodate all sleep positions. The Sunset LUXE, Midnight LUXE, and Twilight LUXE are designed with side sleepers in mind. The Moonlight LUXE, Dusk LUXE, and Dawn LUXE may be more appropriate for back and stomach sleepers. Additionally, the three firmness options and zoned support can make the Helix LUXE mattress accommodating for most weight groups.

Couples will enjoy the Helix LUXE’s balance between bounce and motion isolation. The bounce is beneficial for sex, while the motion isolation can help reduce disturbances resulting from one partner moving during the night.

The Helix LUXE mattress is a particularly good option for sleepers who want to enjoy extra luxury and have the budget to do so. The Helix LUXE mattress offers some of the same features of the original Helix mattress with added touches of luxury, like a pillow top and zoned support. However, the price point of the Helix LUXE mattress is also higher, so it might not be ideal for shoppers with a strict budget.

Since the Helix LUXE mattress is 14 inches tall, it will also appeal to sleepers who prefer a thicker-than-average mattress.
